Bang & Olufsen knows as well as anybody that you can’t (usually) compete only on design and quality these days, people want functionality, and the much rumored, newly official BeoSound 5 is just such a monster. The unit is controlled by the BeoSound 5 controller, a rather large “remote” with a 10.4-inch XGA LCD and an aluminum scroll wheel. On the back end there’s a 500GB BeoControl 5 music server running Windows XP Embedded with internet connectivity and patent pending intelligent playlist creation. Naturally there are outputs and inputs galore, and it’s not just for audio: the box pumps out DVI-I and HDMI, and can play back plenty of video formats. Oh, but then there’s the price. B&O isn’t budging on this front, with a £3,500 tag (about $5,262 US) for when this hits in March 2009.

Fringe is an amazing show

Wow. I just finished watching the seventh episode of the first season. I really didn’t know what to expect when I started to watch it at the beginning of the season but so far its been amazing. I’m a real fan of the whole sci-fi genre and this show is definitely “out there”.

Every episode has this team of FBI investigators solve some sort of weird phenomenon that is caused by “the pattern”. The whole pattern thing is basically referring to every weird ass thing that happens.

The show seems to be getting better and better as the season goes on, and the actors seem to be getting better too; that’s always nice.

You should definitely check it out, it airs on Tuesdays on Fox.

The following is a school project I did in my technical communications class. Enjoy!

Replacing a flat tire

Introduction

Replacing a flat tire requires only a few essentials: a spare tire, a jack, a tire iron, and a wheel chock (or large rock). Because flat tires are so common and can happen at any time, every driver should know how to replace a tire with a spare. Although it can be daunting the first time you attempt it, replacing a tire is not very difficult. Almost anyone can do it in under 15 minutes, which is less time than it usually takes for assistance to arrive. After reading this set of instructions, you will know how to safely and correctly replace a tire on your own.

Directions

1. Pull off the road, turn off the engine, and turn on the hazard lights.

2. Put the car in park on level ground and apply the parking brake.

Note: If you drive a manual transmission car, you should put it in gear.

3. Place a wheel chock or a large rock behind (if facing uphill) or in front of (if facing downhill) the diagonally opposing wheel to prevent the car from rolling.

Note: This should be done even on a slight incline.

4. Get out the spare tire, a lug nut wrench (tire iron), and a car jack.

Note: To avoid bruised knuckles, you should pull rather than push when removing lug nuts.

Note: Do the following before jacking up the car.

5. Remove the lug nut by placing one end of the tire iron over a lug nut.

Note: The loosening of the lug nuts should be completed in a star pattern, first loosening one a few turns and then loosening the one opposite.

6. Turn the tire iron counter clockwise to loosen the lug nut.

7. Work across the tire until all the lug nuts are loose and unscrewed.

Warning: Cars can slip off jacks. Being extremely careful is very important. You should never get under a car with only a tire changing jack holding it up.

8. Move the jack underneath the car. Read the rest of this entry »

Do you like music? Of Course your do! Everyone loves music, and I’m sure most people listen to music on their computer. I love finding new music all the time. It’s just something I find interesting. About 2 years ago I found a website called “audioscrobbler” which had you install a small app that would run in the background waiting for you to listen to music, and once you played some music, it would record it to your profile page.

Well either that site got sold, or someone decided to do a complete over haul of the site. It is not known as Last.fm. The site is brilliant. I love it. You just install the app that records what you listen to, and bam! All the stuff you listened to is in your profile. After about a month you can check it out and see what the site recommends you. I have found so many bands this way its nuts.

There is even a whole community aspect to it. Everyone has their own profile page with what they listen to, how often, who they are friends with, etc etc. They also recommend you friends who have the same taste in music, which I think is pretty amazing.

I really suggest you check out the site. It’s a neat way to find new music and talk to people who are interested in the same music as you.

You can check out my profile page here.

K dont mind my shitty title. I thought it was unique! Someone has managed to turn a harddrive into a turn table input machine. The guy even includes a how-to on how you can do it yourself!

Spyware is generally known as something really terrible. Whenever someone mentions it, you shudder, hoping that your computer isn’t infected with the illusive spyware everyone always talks about. Spyware is usually something that advertises ads on your computer; generally the ads come up randomly and frequently.

Spyware can also be in the form of information collecting. This means that when the spyware is planted into your computer, it collects information about your surfing habits, the programs you use, even what you type. It can be scary thinking that something could be in your computer, recording all of this and sending it to someone you don’t even know.

Companies that make spyware usually don’t care about anyone else other than themselves. They use the spyware to exploit advertising networks. There are many advertising networks that pay people to show their ads, a spyware engineer could make a certain spyware to show that networks ads, generating quite a lot of money. Toshiba’s new TV ad is a pretty amazing feat. They hired an ad agency that used 200 Gigashot HD camcorders placed all the way around them side by side to capture the action. All that action accumulated  20,000 gigabytes of data. What they came up with its pretty mind blowing. You actually have to watch it 3-4 times to catch everything that’s going on. Sometimes people are doing the same thing over and over, and sometimes they’re going around freely doing what they want.

Read on for the mind blowing video.
